Put those two numbers next to a median build year of 2004 and you get a fairly specific carpet situation: a town of separate houses, most of them one generation old, most of them still on the covering the builder chose. Original tack strip, one pad, one age of substrate

In older stock the interesting question is how many layers are down there and which one is glued. Here it is usually simpler. A house from this build era normally has original tack strip at the perimeter, one pad, and a subfloor of a single age and specification through the whole floor plate. That means the pull-up is predictable and the surprises, when there are any, are local: a stapled seam that was never right, a soft spot near a door that has been leaked on, a pad that failed in one traffic lane and nowhere else. The measure is where that gets checked, not the install morning.

Why the stair run sets the order here

Detached two-story plans of this vintage tend to put the bedrooms above the living space, which loads every trip in the house onto one stair run and one landing. Stairs are measured on their own, tread by tread, because they consume material out of all proportion to their square footage and because the wrap detail is decided standing on them, not at a desk. If your Foristell house has a turn, a winder or an open side on that run, say so when you book, and the person measuring will bring what that needs.

One city, two counties, and the address that decides which

Foristell's city limits fall in both St. Charles County and Warren County. The Census Bureau's geocoder places parts of the incorporated city in each county, and a Missouri State Auditor report on the city describes it as located in St. Charles County and Warren County. The line runs through the incorporated city rather than around it, which is why the city lists two ambulance districts, St. Charles County and Warren County, and two fire protection districts, Wentzville and Wright City, among the emergency services covering Foristell, and why it is split between two public school districts as well. For a floor it matters in one plain way. A Foristell mailing address does not tell you which county the house is in, so we take it from the address itself when the measure is booked rather than from the town on the envelope.

The last mile runs through an interchange being rebuilt

The last mile of a carpet order is made by a truck rather than a car, and in Foristell that mile goes through work in progress. The Route T/W interchange is Foristell's I-70 interchange, and MoDOT describes Route T, Route W, Veterans Memorial Parkway and the North Outer Road as the roads using it. MoDOT is rebuilding it: the existing signals and stop-controlled intersections are being removed so that the intersections north and south of the interstate function as roundabouts, as part of the Improve I-70 project between Warrenton and Wentzville. The pattern at that exit is therefore not fixed, and six minutes of road is short enough that a changed one costs nothing as long as somebody looked. We check what the exit is doing the week of an install rather than assuming it from the week of the quote.

Samples that come back the same afternoon

Foristell sits 3.9 road miles west of the showroom, about six minutes. Carpet is the material where that matters most, because a looped or textured surface reads completely differently under a north-facing bedroom window than it does under showroom lighting, and nobody can hold that comparison in their head on the drive home. Six minutes means the samples that got narrowed down at the house can be swapped for a second set the same day, and looked at on the actual floor, against the actual walls, at the hour of day you will mostly see the room.
