Flooring is sold with a vocabulary that nobody explains. Wear layer, face weight, AC rating, rectified, register, twist, veneer. Every one of those words is doing real work, and knowing what it means is the difference between choosing a floor and being sold one. So we wrote them all down. How to use this
Each entry opens with a definition short enough to read in one breath, then explains what the term changes in a real room, what it does not tell you, and how to check it yourself on a sample. Entries link to the category they belong to, so you can go from a word to a floor without starting over.
Why some entries cover things we do not stock
A few entries explain materials we do not carry. Wool carpet and the exotic hardwood species are the clearest examples. They are here because an encyclopedia that only defines what is on our own shelves is a catalogue, not a reference. If you want to know what wool does differently, you should be able to find that out here and then decide.
