What happens when you walk in.

The floors are on the floor here, not in a binder. Tell whoever meets you what rooms you are doing, what is down there now, and who lives on it. The field narrows fast. Pets, a basement on a slab, a room that takes hard afternoon light, a hallway the whole family uses: those details rule products out before anyone talks price.

Most people arrive thinking they need to see everything. They usually leave with three or four samples and a clear reason for each one. There is no pressure to decide in the store, and nothing you look at obligates you to buy.

Samples look different in your house.

A plank under showroom lighting is not the same plank under your windows. Undertone shifts, sheen shifts, and a color that reads warm on a display can read gray next to your cabinets. That is why samples go home with you.

Lay them where the floor is going. Look at them in the morning, in the afternoon, and with the lamps on at night. Set them against the trim, a cabinet door and the countertop. Two days with a sample on your own floor settles more arguments than an hour of comparing chips at the rack.

What to bring to the showroom.

None of this is required. Bring what you have and we will work with it. This visit is about choosing a floor rather than pinning down numbers, so nothing here has to be exact.

• A cabinet door, a drawer front, a paint chip or a piece of countertop. Whatever the new floor has to sit next to is the fastest way to rule out the wrong colors.
• Photos of the rooms taken in daylight. Wide shots that show the windows, the trim, the cabinets and any floor you are keeping.
• A note of which rooms you are doing and what is on them now. Enough to point the conversation in the right direction.
• Who lives on the floor. Dogs, small kids, the hallway everyone uses, the door everyone comes in wet through.
• A budget range, even a loose one. It keeps us showing you floors you would actually buy.
• Room in the car for samples. Planks, tile and carpet pieces go home with you the same day.

From the showroom to the measure.

Choosing and quoting are two separate visits, and both are free. Once the samples are down to a couple of finalists, we come to your house and measure the actual rooms on the actual subfloor. That is where the quote gets written, covering material, prep and labor rather than a square foot price alone. Who is behind the counter.

Flooring Correct is owned by Jonah and Audra Paup. The Paups have been a flooring family since the early 70s, known in the trade as the Paup Boys. Jonah trained for more than 25 years under his father Bobby. The advice you get across the sample rack comes from that.
