What an estimate actually involves
Three things, in this order. Time in the showroom to narrow the product down to something you actually want. A free measure of the rooms, which has its own page: see the in-home measure for how that visit works. Then a written quote for that product in those rooms. None of it costs anything, and you can stop after any of the three.
Jonah and Audra Paup own the store and work in it. Jonah trained for more than 25 years under his father, Bobby. The Paups have been a flooring family since the early 70s, so the person putting a number in front of you has spent a long time around the product.
What is on the quote
Step three of our installation process is the detailed quote. It covers flooring, underlayment and installation costs, so what you are looking at is the job rather than a price per square foot with the rest added later.
- Flooring. The brand, line and color you picked, at the quantity your rooms take.
- Underlayment. What that product and that room call for underneath it.
- Installation. The labor to put the floor down, by crews with 15 or more years in the trade and most past 25.
Ask about any line on it. If the product changes, the number changes with it, so it is worth asking what a different line would do to the total before you decide. That is easier to do while the quote is in front of you than after the order is placed.
Is it free, and am I committing to anything
It is free. No fee to walk in, no fee for the measure, no charge for the written quote. Nothing is owed if you take the numbers home, think about it, and decide the timing is wrong or the room can wait a year. Most people compare, and we would rather you compare a real quote than a rough figure.
How long it takes
The showroom visit takes as long as you want it to. Color is the part people underestimate, and it is worth the extra half hour. The measure is a scheduled appointment, and the written quote follows it. If you are working toward a date, a closing, a holiday, a move in, say so at the start so we can tell you straight whether it fits.
What to have ready for a quote
- Which rooms. A list works, a rough sketch works better.
- Rough square footage if you know it. An approximate number is enough to talk in ranges before anyone measures.
- Your timing. A date you are working toward, or a season if the job can wait.
- Whether the existing floor is coming out. Tell us either way, so the quote is written against the right job.
