Question 1

Why we can afford to answer this straight

Search any flooring matchup and most of what you find was written by a manufacturer of one side, a retailer who carries one side, or a content site that has never touched either material. The tell is always the same: one material gets its weaknesses listed gently and the other gets a hatchet. We stock every category this tool can recommend. When you choose laminate over vinyl plank, or carpet over hardwood, we make the sale either way, which removes any reason to tilt the answer.

So the finder is built to agree with what we already say in writing. It will not put solid hardwood in a basement, because a slab moves moisture upward every day of the year and wood answers that by cupping and gapping. It will not put laminate or carpet in a full bathroom, because standing water is a different problem from spills. It leans on carpet for stairs, because cushioning a missed step and staying quiet at seven in the morning matter more there than anything else. Those are the same positions our room pages and comparison pages take at length.

What a shortlist is worth, and what settles it

A shortlist narrows a wall of options down to two or three worth your attention, which is genuinely useful. It cannot tell you how a plank feels underfoot, how a color reads in your own north facing light at four in the afternoon, or which of two products in the same category is built better. That is what samples on a showroom counter are for, and why our answer to almost every question ends with standing on the material rather than reading about it.

When you have a shortlist, the next step costs nothing: bring it to the showroom at 15570 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, or book the free in-home measure and we will bring the conversation to your rooms. Working out how much material a room takes is a separate question, and the flooring calculator handles that side.

Questions about choosing a material

Below grade, the slab moves moisture upward continuously even when the room looks and feels perfectly dry, so the material has to be one that does not care about vapor. Luxury vinyl plank is the answer in most finished basements. Solid hardwood is a poor bet down there regardless of how good the room looks today, because sustained moisture makes wood cup, gap or lift.

A full bathroom gets standing water rather than spills, so waterproof has to mean what it says. Tile is the classic answer and handles steam and puddles without complaint, luxury vinyl plank is genuinely waterproof and warmer underfoot, and sheet vinyl gives water almost no seams to find. Grip matters here too, because bare wet feet make it a safety question.

Because some pairings of material and room fail predictably, and a recommendation that ignores that is not worth having. Solid hardwood does not go below grade. Laminate and carpet do not go in a full bathroom. Those are the same positions our room pages and comparison pages take in writing, and the finder agrees with them rather than softening them to widen a shortlist.

Fair question, and the honest answer is in what we stock. We carry every category this tool can recommend, so we make the sale whichever way your answers land. That removes the reason to tilt an answer. Most comparisons online are written by a manufacturer of one side or a retailer who carries one side, and the tell is that one material's weaknesses get listed gently while the other gets a hatchet.

No. Everything happens in your browser, there is no account and no email gate, and nothing is stored. Your shortlist leaves your browser only if you press the button that puts it into an estimate request, and that button shows you exactly what it is sending.

Bring it to the showroom at 15570 Veterans Memorial Pkwy and stand on the samples, because how a floor feels underfoot and reads in your own light is the part no tool can answer. Or book the free in-home measure and we will bring the conversation to your rooms. Call 636-332-0654.
