Is laminate flooring waterproof now?

The word people actually mean when they ask this is will it survive my kitchen, or my laundry room, and that's a room question, not a category question. Laminate as we sell it has genuinely improved on water, and it is still not the same promise as waterproof. Getting those two words confused is how a good floor ends up in the wrong room.

What water resistant actually buys you

A treated core and sealed edges are built to survive a spill that gets wiped up in a normal amount of time, not water that's left to sit. That mechanism is covered in full on its own page. Option one: stay with water-resistant laminate
